ChatGPT 5: OpenAI’s Most Powerful AI Model Is Now Free for All

OpenAI has launched GPT-5, the newest version of its AI model powering ChatGPT — and for the first time, it’s available to everyone, including free users.

Unveiled Thursday, GPT-5 represents a major upgrade in speed, reasoning, and reliability. It now powers ChatGPT across all user tiers — from Free to Plus, Pro, Team, and soon, Enterprise and Education accounts.

This rollout means even non-paying users can now experience ChatGPT 5, the most advanced public model OpenAI has ever released.

Smarter Responses, Lower Hallucinations

Compared to GPT-4, GPT5 delivers more accurate answers with fewer hallucinations — a technical term for when AI makes up information. The model has also been trained to recognize tasks it can’t complete, avoid wild guesses, and explain its limits more transparently.

“GPT-5 is much more useful,” said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. “When I tried going back to GPT-4, it was quite miserable.”

The new model went through over 5,000 hours of safety testing. Instead of shutting down when given risky prompts, GPT-5 offers what OpenAI calls “safe completions” — giving helpful responses within strict guardrails.

What Can ChatGPT-5 Do?

OpenAI showed off GPT-5’s capabilities through a demo where it created full web apps based on short written instructions — a technique referred to as “vibe coding.” Within seconds, the AI generated two different French-language learning apps complete with flashcards, quizzes, and progress tracking.

OpenAI also says GPT-5 feels more “human,” describing the experience as having a team of expert assistants who can write, code, summarize, explain, and ideate with natural conversation.

Business users like Box have praised the update. CEO Aaron Levie called it “a breakthrough” in reading and reasoning over long documents, citing GPT-5’s improved memory and logic.

Available Now — Even Without a Subscription

One of the biggest surprises is that OpenAI GPT 5 is now accessible to everyone. Free-tier users will get access to a limited number of GPT-5 responses each day, and when they reach their cap, they’ll be switched to GPT-5 Mini, a lighter version.

Pro users get unlimited access to Chat GPT 5 Pro, while business and education platforms will receive the upgrade within the week.

Developers can also integrate the model through the OpenAI API in three versions: GPT-5, GPT-5 Mini, and GPT-5 Nano — designed for different speeds and budgets.

GPT-5 Powers Microsoft Products Too

Microsoft, OpenAI’s strategic partner, announced that Chat GPT 5 is also being integrated across its platforms — including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Azure AI tools, and consumer-facing Copilot services.

“It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come since GPT-4,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a post celebrating the release.

With ChatGPT reportedly reaching 700 million weekly active users, and OpenAI possibly eyeing a $500 billion valuation, the launch of GPT-5 marks another major step in reshaping how the world uses AI — now faster, smarter, and more available than ever.
